Meta Muse, explained for merchants
Muse AI by Meta: what it means for your store's profit
On 8 September 2026 Meta launched Muse, a personal AI agent that browses, fills forms, shops and checks out on a person's behalf. Orders it places on Shopify stores arrive through a new agentic sales channel, and the storefront pixel never fires. This page explains what Muse is, how its orders reach your store, and where they land in your P&L. If you want Muse to read those figures itself, MerchantFlow connects to it over MCP.

What it is
A consumer agent, not a chatbot
Meta describes Muse as a personal AI agent that can take actions and get things done with a person's direction. It sends email, books travel, fills in web forms, negotiates, turns saved Reels into shopping lists, and buys things. Each user gets a dedicated cloud virtual machine with its own browser, and a separate system Meta calls Sentinel checks every internet-bound action against the user's permissions. Before any purchase the person has to tap Allow.
Muse is a separate app from the Meta AI assistant that lives inside Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. It is also the consumer half of a pair. The merchant half is Meta Business Agent, launched in June 2026, which answers customers, recommends catalogue products and closes sales in WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. Meta has not announced a direct link between the two.
The name covers a family. Muse Spark is the model that powers the agent and Meta AI. Muse Image is the image generator Meta said would reach advertisers through Advantage+ creative. Muse Code is a terminal coding agent and Muse Glimmer is an open-weight model. When a merchant asks about Muse AI by Meta, they almost always mean the shopping agent, and that is what the rest of this page is about.

How an order arrives
Three ways a Muse order reaches your store
Which path an order takes decides what your analytics can see about it. All three end in a normal order in your store's admin.
Shopify direct checkout through the Meta channel
Since 8 September, Meta appears as an AI channel under Agentic Storefronts in Shopify admin. Products in Shopify Catalog are shared by default, and an order Muse completes this way is attributed to the Meta channel like any other sales channel. Shopify charges no channel fee beyond payment processing, direct checkout is limited to US customers for now, and subscriptions, bundles, customisable products and B2B-only items are excluded.
Shop Pay agentic checkout
Announced on 21 September 2026 for all Shopify stores, built on Shop Pay and the Universal Commerce Protocol. Shopify has not published a timeline for when every Muse user gets it, and no financial terms were disclosed.
Browser mode, which is how WooCommerce stores get Muse orders
Muse can also shop the way a person would: open your storefront in its own browser, fill the checkout, and pay with a one-time virtual card from Link by Stripe. To your store this is an ordinary order from an ordinary card. No agentic channel exists for WooCommerce, so this is the only path there today.
What changes
Four things Muse does to your numbers
None of these break your P&L, but each one quietly moves a figure you may be steering by.
Your pixels go quiet
During Meta direct checkout the storefront never loads, so browser pixels, Google Analytics and custom pixels do not fire. Shopify says server-side checkout events still arrive. If a dashboard is built on pixel data, Muse orders are invisible to it while the revenue is real.
Attribution gets thinner
An order Muse placed carries no ad click and no UTM. Channel ROAS under-reports while revenue and cost of goods are unchanged. This is the case blended MER exists for: total spend against total revenue does not care which pixel saw the order.
A new cost line may be coming
Mark Zuckerberg has said Meta intends to take a very small cut of transactions Muse facilitates, paid by the business. No rate, terms or date have been published. Meta Business Agent already bills by token. Either is a line your expense tracking should have a home for.
Ads keep flowing, and Muse does not feed them
Advantage+ spend still lands as Meta spend, and Muse Image is meant to reach Advantage+ creative. But Meta says Muse data is not shared with its ad systems, so Muse purchases are not a new targeting signal. Agency claims that Muse Spark powers ad ranking are not something Meta has said.
How MerchantFlow handles it
Profit built from orders, not pixels
MerchantFlow reads orders from Shopify and WooCommerce and sets every cost against them. That design is what makes an agent-placed order a non-event for your P&L.
Every Muse order counted at order level
A Muse order syncs like any other Shopify or WooCommerce order and carries its product cost, payment fee, shipping, tax and any later refund. Revenue and net profit are complete whether or not a pixel saw the checkout.
Blended MER and profit-based ROAS
Total marketing spend against total revenue, and return measured on contribution margin. When per-channel attribution thins out, these are the figures that still reconcile to your bank account.
A home for agent fees
If Meta starts charging a cut, or you pay for Business Agent tokens, enter it once as a recurring expense and it is allocated across your daily P&L from that day on.
Ask Muse the profit question directly
Muse takes custom connectors to MCP servers, and MerchantFlow is one. Add the connector URL inside Muse and it reads the same P&L, margins, ROAS and COGS your dashboard shows, read-only, before it acts on anything. The connect page has the four steps.
One honest limit: MerchantFlow does not currently label orders by Shopify sales channel, so a Muse order is counted in full but cannot be filtered on its own yet.
FAQ
Questions merchants ask about Meta Muse
What is Muse AI by Meta?
Muse is Meta's personal AI agent, launched on 8 September 2026. It runs on Meta's Muse Spark model, works from a dedicated cloud VM with its own browser, and can browse, fill forms, send email, book and buy on a person's behalf with their approval. It is available in the US and Canada on iOS, Android, the web, Mac and inside WhatsApp.
Is Muse the same as Meta AI?
No. Meta AI is the assistant inside Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and the Meta AI app. Muse is a separate app and a separate agent, although both are powered by Muse Spark. Meta Business Agent, the merchant-side agent that answers customers in WhatsApp and Instagram, is a third product again.
Is this Microsoft's Muse?
No. Microsoft Research released a model called Muse in February 2025 for game design ideation. It has nothing to do with Meta's agent, and neither does the Muse EEG headband.
Do Muse orders show up in my Shopify admin?
Yes. Orders completed through Meta direct checkout appear in Shopify admin attributed to the Meta channel, and you remain the merchant of record. Orders Muse places through your normal storefront checkout look like any other card order. Shopify says orders through Shopify Catalog and direct checkout carry no channel fee beyond standard payment processing.
Does Muse work with WooCommerce stores?
Muse can shop any storefront in its browser, so WooCommerce stores can receive Muse orders paid with a one-time virtual card from Link by Stripe. There is no WooCommerce equivalent of Shopify's Meta agentic channel, so there is no channel attribution and no direct checkout path today.
Will Muse purchases appear in Meta Ads reporting?
Only if the person also clicked a Meta ad inside Meta's attribution window. Meta says Muse conversations and VM data are not shared with its ad systems, so an order Muse placed does not become a conversion on its own. Judge the whole channel on blended MER rather than on the ROAS Ads Manager can see.
Can I connect MerchantFlow to Muse?
Yes. Muse supports custom connectors to MCP servers, and MerchantFlow is an MCP server with OAuth 2.1, a personal-access-token fallback and read-only scopes. Add the MerchantFlow connector URL inside the Muse app and approve access; the setup steps are on the connect page. MerchantFlow is not yet listed in Muse's connector directory, which Meta opened to developers on 18 September 2026, so the custom connector is the path in for now.
Why did Amazon block Muse?
Around 20 September 2026 Amazon began blocking Muse on amazon.com, telling shoppers that continued access by an unauthorised AI agent violates its conditions of use. Amazon said agents should identify themselves and respect service providers' decisions. Meta reiterated that Muse has no visibility into people's passwords or payment methods. Shopify announced its Shop Pay partnership with Muse the next business day.
Does MerchantFlow count Muse orders in my profit?
Yes. MerchantFlow builds your P&L from synced orders, not from pixels, so a Muse order is netted against its product cost, payment fees, shipping, tax and refunds like any other. What MerchantFlow does not do yet is label orders by Shopify sales channel, so you cannot filter to Muse orders on their own.
