Connect Shopify to Claude and ChatGPT
Shopify knows what you sold. It does not know what it cost you. MerchantFlow joins your orders to your ad spend, COGS, fulfilment costs and fees, then hands your AI a number worth acting on.
What you can ask once it is connected
“What was my net profit last 30 days, and which product hurt it most?”
Net profit was A$18,420 on A$94,300 net revenue, a 19.5% margin. The largest drag was the Oak Coffee Table: A$6,100 revenue at a negative 14.2% contribution margin, driven by fulfilment cost averaging A$41 per order against a A$95 average order value.

What Shopify alone cannot tell you
Connecting an AI directly to Shopify is genuinely useful, and for some questions it is all you need. It stops being enough the moment the question involves money you spent somewhere else.
- Your advertising spend, which lives in Meta and Google, not in Shopify
- Your cost of goods, unless you maintain it by hand per variant and keep it current
- Fulfilment and shipping costs billed by your 3PL after the order shipped
- Operating expenses, subscriptions and amortised one-off costs
What MerchantFlow adds
- Cost per item read straight from Shopify's own inventory field, per variant, in your shop currency - no spreadsheet to maintain if you already keep it there
- Real payment fees taken from the order's transactions, including reconciliation when the fee was charged in a different currency to the order
- Refunds recognised against the day of sale, and anchored to the most recent partial refund rather than the first
- Tax handled correctly whether your prices include it or not, which changes how revenue is aggregated
- POS, mobile app and draft orders identified as their own channels rather than lumped in with online
- Subscription and selling-plan orders recognised, including from third-party subscription apps
- Ad spend from all four platforms attributed to the same day and currency as the orders
MerchantFlow requests read-only Shopify scopes. It cannot change products, prices, inventory or orders, and no write scope is requested at install.
How to connect it
- 01
Connect Shopify to MerchantFlow
Authorise Shopify from your MerchantFlow integrations page. We start pulling and normalising the data straight away.
- 02
Add MerchantFlow as a connector in Claude or ChatGPT
Approve read-only access from your AI client's connector settings. Nothing to install on your machine. Your dashboard shows the current steps for whichever client you use, because the clients move their menus often.
- 03
Ask in plain English
Your AI now reads the same figures as your dashboard, joined across every source you have connected.
Included on every paid plan, trials included. Starter reads 90 days of history, Pro reads 12 months, and Plus and Agency read your full history.
The tools your AI calls
These are the actual tools MerchantFlow exposes for Shopify questions. Every claim on this page maps to one of them.

Can it change anything in Shopify?
No. The connection is read-only and no write access exists to grant. Your AI can read figures and reason about them; it cannot create, edit, pause or delete anything.
Will the numbers match my dashboard?
Yes. Your AI calls the same calculations the MerchantFlow dashboard uses, so the same question over the same period returns the same figure in both places.
